About STI test kits

You should test for sexually transmitted infections and can use our service if you don’t have symptoms but you have a new sexual partner, have more than one sexual partner, you’ve had sex without a condom (or it's broken), or are worried you have been exposed to an STI.

If you're experiencing ANY SYMPTOMS then you should NOT use this service. You require an urgent face to face assessment and should contact your GP or go straight to your local sexual health clinic, if you have:

  • Pain when you pass urine or passing urine more often
  • Changes to your vaginal discharge e.g. more discharge or change in colour/smell
  • Pain in your lower abdomen/tummy
  • Bleeding between your periods and/or heavier periods
  • Pain and/or bleeding from your vagina during sex
  • Bleeding from your vagina after sex
  • Pain in or bleeding from your rectum/bottom
  • Discharge/fluid from your rectum/bottom

If you order before 3pm your test should be dispatched the same day and takes 2-3 working days to arrive. Once you have posted back your sample the lab will take 1 working day to process your result from when they receive it.

We will then send you a message via your Patient Record with your results.

Our chlamydia and gonorrhoea tests are as accurate as those taken in a clinic. However, you must wait 2 weeks from when you think you were possibly exposed to take the test as the infections may not show up before this.

The HIV saliva test we provide is very accurate for negative results. For positive results you will test “reactive” which means that there is a possibility of HIV. This means you must then attend a clinic to have this confirmed with a blood test. If you test “reactive” our doctors will give you all the advice that you need. You need to wait 14 weeks after possible exposure before taking the saliva test for HIV.
